The Art of Charity Cash
Q. What is an ‘Artnote’?
A. An Artnote is a euro banknote that has been used as a canvas for the addition of an artwork. Artnotes have been produced for donation to charities.
Q. What value of euro notes are you changing into Artnotes?
A. There are: 35 x 5's, - 6 x 10's, - 2 x 20's, - 2 x 50's, - 2 x 100's, - 2 x 200's and 2 x 500 notes. The total value of notes converted to Artnotes is 1,975 euros.
Q. Are you crazy?
A. No, but I’ll settle for well-meaning eccentric.
Q. What is the purpose of this art project?
A. The purpose of this project is to create and donate Artnotes, featuring miniature artworks, to charitable causes so that they may raise money from their sale. The artworks are added to increase the original value of the banknotes in favour of the charities.
Q. How do we know that this money is going to charity?
A. This is not money anymore, it is art. Any news of money raised from the subsequent sale of our Artnotes will be published on this site. Click the note's serial number to view its history.
Q. Who are you, are you a famous artist?
A. No, I am anonymous.
Q. Can I spend an Artnote?
A. No, although genuine banknotes, they are no longer considered legal tender by the European Central Bank due to the added artwork.
Q. Can I sell an Artnote?
A. Yes, if you have one, you can sell it to the highest bidder! If you’re not the original beneficiary of an Artnote and you are selling it at a profit, please remember the ideology behind the project and make a donation to your own preferred charity.
Q. How do we know what happens to an Artnote once it has been donated?
A. Click the note's serial number to view its history. If you have any news about an Artnote, please share it here.
Q. Can I buy an Artnote from this website?
A. No, we don’t sell them, we donate them. Try contacting the charities listed on the home page. You can contact us here with any charitable nominations of your own.
Q. Who will you donate the Artnotes to?
A. The Artnotes will be donated to registered charities, worthy causes and people in need.
Q. I think I have an Artnote, how can I tell if it is genuine?
A. Click the page on this site that features your note’s face value, and check your note’s serial number against those listed at the foot of that page.
Q. What makes you think the banknotes will be worth more than face value after you have added your artwork?
A. I have faith in the charity of people in general, and believe that these rare Artnotes will become highly collectable in their own right.
Q. Why reproduce famous masterpieces instead of producing your own original art?
A. I cannot come close to the artists’ masterpieces with my own designs, my artistic contribution relies instead on technical ability and interpretation.
Q. What’s stopping anyone from copying your idea and making their own Artnotes?
A. There are many hours of work involved in creating each and every Artnote. They also have their own security features added. They are almost impossible to reproduce as each artwork is as unique and individual as a fingerprint, and not much bigger! Finally, only banknotes matching the serial numbers of those listed on this website are genuine Artnotes.
Q. I am an artist and would like to contribute my own work, how do I do this?
A. Take a look at our Contributing Artists' page. Once we receive your artistically altered euro banknote, we will validate it with our additional security markings, list it on this website under Contributing Artists and donate it to a charity of your choice. Any notes carrying obscene images will be returned without validation.
